The Rod and Reel Resort An Anna Maria Island Resort

I recently spent 2 nights at the Rod and Reel Resort in Anna Maria Island. This was not my first time visiting the island but it was my first time staying at this Anna Maria Island resort. It was a hosted stay; however, I was and am under no obligation to share my experience with you on my blog. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my stay so much I decided to share it anyway.

I will be providing you with a comprehensive review of the resort and explaining why I think this is the perfect waterfront Anna Maria island resort to stay at. This review as with all my reviews will be honest feedback including the things I loved and things that could be better. Additionally, I will give you a sample itinerary of what to do during your stay including suggestions of some places to eat.

The goal is twofold, understanding why this is the perfect Ana Maria Island resort for you to stay at and helping you make the best of your stay in Anna Maria Island.  Please do keep in mind this review reflects my experience and my personal thoughts on this experience. All opinions are my own and your experience may be different from mine.

Where to stay in Anna Maria Island

The Rod and Reel Resort, The Perfect Waterfront Anna Maria Island Resort

One of the things I love about the Rod and Reel Resort is that it is a boutique resort that offers luxury and all-inclusive benefits (will be talking about these later on).  With only 8 individual luxury suites it never feels crowded. In addition, if you are looking to relax you never really need to leave the resort.

Because there are only 8 suites each one is large and spacious, allowing enough room for those with a family or for a couple wanting more space to spread out. This Anna Maria Island resort feels as if it is your own personal oasis.

The common areas are well thought out with plenty of room for lounging in the shade or the sun. One of my favorite areas was the rooftop. Plenty of seating and amazing views – catch a beautiful sunrise from the rooftop.

The kids really enjoyed the ping-pong table, and there is also corn hole and shuffleboard available. On the beach, there are plenty of lounge chairs to relax on. Alternatively, for a more active stay you can chose to utilize the kayaks and paddleboards.

When deciding where to stay on Anna Maria Island location is key. The waterfront location of this Anna Maria Island resort is prime. With access to white sand beaches, calm clear waters, and spectacular waterfront views including the evening lights of the bridge in the distance. Furthermore, a few steps away on the Rod and Reel Pier is some of the best fishing on the island plus a very well regarded restaurant.

And if you do decide to leave the resort then you are within arm’s reach of the best restaurants, shops and activities on the Island. The best part is you don’t even need to drive you can borrow one of their bikes and then not worry about parking.

Where is the Rod and Reel Resort Located?

We all know that deciding where to stay on Anna Maria Island is a hard decision.  The Rod and Reel Resort is located 877 North Shore Drive, Anna Maria, FL 34217.  It is right next to the famous Rod and Reel Pier.

Its location the Northeast part of the island is less crowded because it is not as densely populated as some other areas on the island. This means you have plenty of space to roam in peace and quiet.  And although it feels like you are isolated from crowds, The Rod and Reel Resort is located just half mile away of Pine Ave. This is where you will find some of the best shops and restaurants on the Island.

Most importantly for those who want to experience waterfront living, this Anna Maria Island resort is on prime waterfront property. This means guests have access to one the best beaches the island has to offer – specifically my favorite beach “Bean Point”

Service and Amenities That Set The Rod and Reel Resort Apart From Other Anna Maria Island Resorts

When deciding on where to stay in Anna Maria Island I not only look at location but also at the amenities the resort will provide.  Will I be comfortable?  Do they offer included activities that will be fun for the entire family and save me money, etc.

One of the best things about the Rod and reel resort is that is has so many all-inclusive amenities. And since you do not have to pay extra for them they will be a cost savings to you. Plus each room is a suite providing luxury and ample space for your stay.  Let’s take a look at all that this Anna Maria Island resort has to offer:

The Suites at The Rod and Reel Resort

Master bedroom in suite at rod and reel resort

This Anna Maria Island resort offers 8 suites with 11 total bedrooms and 8 full bathrooms. We stayed in Suite 2, which is a two-bedroom suite that fits 6 people.

Suite 2 is a beautifully appointed room. Modern beach decor with gorgeous neutral flooring, elegant bathrooms, convenient kitchenette and luxurious beds and bedding.

The Comfortable and Spacious Bedrooms

The first bedroom has a king size bed. The bed creaked a bit with movement; however, the mattress on the bed was incredibly comfortable, so much so I would like to purchase one for my home. I also loved the pillows provided; they were soft, fluffy, yet still very supportive. The linens felt luxurious and silky smooth and they provided extra pillows and blankets if needed.

The second bedroom includes a full size bed and two twin bunk beds.  My kids loved how comfortable and spacious it was. Overall, we all had plenty of storage for clothing, shoes and luggage.

The Luxurious Bathroom

The bathroom was beautiful and functional. Our suite had a tub and shower combo done completely in marble. Water pressure was good although it took a bit for the water to get hot enough for me. Shampoo and conditioner are included. I liked the way they smelled however, my girls complained the conditioner did not work for their hair. So if you have thick hair that needs lots of moisturizing or tangles easily perhaps its best to bring your own conditioner. The bathroom had doors connecting  it to both bedrooms.

The Practical Kitchenette and Other Suite Amenities

The kitchenette in our suite was perfect. It was equipped with microwave, mini fridge (big enough for tons of essentials), toaster oven, and coffee maker. In addition, all other necessities such as plates, cups, silverware, bottle opener, were provided. You will have all you need if you wish to save on food costs, stock up on groceries and stay in for some meals.  Additionally, outside by the pool they also offer grills so you can cook steaks or fresh seafood.

This Anna Maria Island Resort has great free Wi-Fi available. It was fast and our entire family was able to connect to it easily and with no issues. There is a smart TV in each room and outlets to plug in your electronics. The only down side was access to outlets by the bed was a bit tricky as they are directly behind the bed so you have to move it in order to reach them. Make sure to bring your own alarm clock if it is something you use because there is none in the room.

Overall, the suites at the Rod and Reel Resort are top of their class compared to other Anna Maria Island accommodations. They are luxurious and comfortable offering everything you need and more for a great stay. I love that they offer luxury yet still feels comfortable and homey.

All Inclusive Activities at The Rod and Reel Resort

Outside your luxury rooms there are a host of fun resort activities for you to take advantage of. All of which are included with your stay. Having these all-inclusive activities is one of the things that sets this Anna Maria Island resort apart from the competition.

Access to Bikes – The Best Way to Get Around the Island

Anna Maria Island is a small island and one of the best ways to get around it is by bike.  Not only is it an eco-friendly transportation, but its great not to have to worry about parking.

Therefore, by far my favorite thing was having access to bikes.  Honestly, they are not in the best condition and desperately need some TLC; however, we still loved having them available for use. We had so much fun riding around the Island and was great to burn off some calories since we ate many wonderful treats. For information on where to bike on Anna Maria Island check out this link.

Access to Kayaks and Paddleboards – For Fun Alternative Way to See the Island

Kayaking at rod and reel resort

My second favorite thing was having access to kayaks and paddleboards.  While we own our own set of paddleboards, it’s a relief not to have to travel with them. In addition, the ones they provide are great.

If you have never experienced paddle boarding then I highly suggest you give it a try during your stay. The waters in Anna Maria Island are perfect for beginners. Moreover, paddle boarding is a fun way to get around and discover parts of the island you would not otherwise see.

To learn some SUP basics you can check out the info from REI here.

If you don’t feel comfortable on a paddleboard but still want to get on the water then use one of the kayaks.  They are small, safe and easy to maneuver. You can even fish from them if you want.

Other Inclusive Activities

If you rather stay on land then you can enjoy some ping-pong, corn hole or shuffleboard. All fun activities the entire family will enjoy.

In conclusion, one of the biggest advantages of staying at this Anna Maria Island Resort is having access to bikes, kayaks and paddleboards, which are things you would normally have to rent from specialty shops. So if you are looking for Anna Maria Island accommodations that offer you more for your money then look no further than the Rod and Reel Resort.

Now that we know why you would want to stay at the Rod and Reel Resort I want to help you out with what you can do while visiting Anna Maria Island. Therefore, I have put together a small sample itinerary for a two-night stay.   I am sure you will want to stay much longer; however, if you only have time for a weekend escape then here is two-night itinerary for Anna Maria Island.

Day 1 – Anna Maria Island Weekend Getaway

Check in at The Rod and Reel Resort at 4:00 pm and settle into your luxurious suite. Enjoy some time by the pool or ocean, do some fishing by the pier or perhaps take advantage and use the resort provided paddleboards or kayaks.

Then head to dinner at the Rod and Reel Pier restaurant. This restaurant is next to the hotel so you can walk there. It is well regarded by locals and visitors alike.  Food is good and pricing is reasonable. You can enjoy great views and food as you watch the sun set.

Day 2 – Anna Maria Island Weekend Getaway

Wake up and enjoy sunrise just steps away from your suite. Walk on the beach or sit and watch the sunrise over the ocean from the rooftop.

Borrow one of the resort provided bikes and head to the North Shore Café for coffee and breakfast. It is located on Pine Avenue and just a short 5-10 min ride away. The café has great outdoor seating and some great options for breakfast. Chose from the healthy menu of acai bowls and avocado toasts or splurge a bit and enjoy some breakfast sandwiches with eggs, cheese and bacon. Don’t forget your coffee, tea or mimosa.

Since you are already on Pine Avenue, you can walk around and check out the wonderful local shops like Pink & Navy Boutique, The Island Cabana or Bella by the Sea. You can also explore the museum and the Old Anna Maria Jail.

Then hop back on your bike and explore more of the island. Biking will work up your appetite and I suggest Poppos Taqueria for a tasty and inexpensive lunch. Then pick up your custom-made donuts at the Donut Experiment and take them to the beach. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon on the white sands and crystal clear waters of Anna Maria beach.

If you want to have dinner with sunset views then book a table at the Sandbar restaurant. This happens to be the oldest restaurant on the island and it is right on the beach. You can have toes in the sand, enjoy a great meal and watch the sunset over the water.  Head back to the resort and enjoy the amenities including a nighttime swim.

Day 3 – Anna Maria Island Weekend Getaway

Wake up and take a walk on the beach while enjoying a beautiful sunrise. Grab the bikes and head to The Waffle Press for a good cup of coffee and some sweet or savory waffles. Then enjoy the resort amenities, play some ping-pong, dip in the pool or ocean and soak up the sun before your check out to head home. You will be relaxed and re-energized after spending two nights at the Rod and Reel Resort.

If you are staying longer then I have a full blog post with more ideas on things to do on Anna Maria Island.  Check it out and you will find some great suggestions on where to go, things to do, and places to eat and drink.

I am sure you will fall in love with both the Rod and Reel Resort and the beautiful laid back vibe of Anna Maria Island.
